Launching Baby Squids North Yorkshire!
I’ve got some incredibly exciting news to share… Baby Squids is growing again!
We are absolutely thrilled to welcome the wonderful Alex Mazier to our team as he officially launches his brand-new Baby Squids North Yorkshire franchise this June. We are so excited to be bringing our super supportive, nurturing, and child-led swimming lessons to families across Harrogate, Leeds, and York!
When I first met Alex, I knew straight away that he was going to be a huge success. He is exceptionally bright and possesses an incredible amount of drive and tenacity. Not only is he a fantastic swim teacher, but he also brings a deep understanding of the customer experience and just how vital it is to support families every single step of the way.
Alex has a lifelong love of the water who has been teaching in the water since he was just 16 years old. Over the years, his career has taken him from managing leisure centres and working as the Men’s Captain of the Vale Royal Lifesaving Society, to providing bespoke 1:1 private swim coaching. He has taught all sorts of people, from training rookie lifeguards to helping 70-year-old beginners take their very first strokes.
But it was actually his inspiring work with older beginners that sparked a profound realisation for him: the longer a person waits to start swimming, the harder it can be to overcome a fear of the water.
As Alex says:
“My work with adults and older children taught me that early exposure isn’t just a ‘nice to have’, it’s vital. I saw first-hand how aquaphobia develops when intervention comes too late. I decided I could have the biggest impact by working at the very beginning of someone’s journey, helping babies and toddlers foster a positive, joyful relationship with water before fear ever has a chance to set in.”
For Alex, this mission is deeply close to his heart as he wasn’t always a natural in the pool as a child.
“I didn’t start lessons until I was five or six and I was a very anxious child in the pool,” Alex explains. “I was much slower to develop than my peers who had started younger than me. It took a truly kind, patient swim teacher to coax me away from the side and help me find my confidence. I want to be that teacher for families in North Yorkshire and provide a safe, calm environment where parents and children can bond while learning essential water confidence and life-saving skills.”
This gentle, empathetic approach is exactly what Baby Squids is all about! Alex’s new franchise is going to be an amazing place for local parents who are looking for a high-quality, supportive swimming experience for their children aged 0-5 years. Our classes focus on building lifelong water confidence through play, song, and that all-important quality bonding time.
Launching This June!
Alex will be kicking off the very first classes on Saturday 6th June at the fantastic Ashville Sports Centre in Harrogate. While we are starting our baby swimming lessons in Harrogate, we fully expect to be expanding into more pools across Leeds and York very soon, so watch this space!
I simply cannot wait to see Alex welcome his new customers. Parents are going to absolutely love his teaching style, his energy, and his dedication to creating a wonderful experience for every single family.
