A little bit about Laura

With a background in business and management in the insurance industry Laura has always loved supporting and coaching individuals, while maintaining a keen eye on the bottom line! When she was made redundant the same year that her first child, Harry, was born in 2011, she took her time thinking about what she wanted to do next, but knew it had to be something she was passionate about.

She founded Baby Squids (originally called Baby Paddlers) in 2012 and found that developing and growing her own swimming teaching business through the first years played perfectly to her natural strengths. She loved running classes and working around Harry, managing her admin during nap times and in the evenings. She quickly saw the potential for the Baby Squids approach to swimming lessons and started making plans to develop classes beyond the New Forest.

When Sophie came along in November 2013, this made Laura even keener to grow the company for her growing family! The following year she and her husband, and business partner, Martin bought the Devon business and set up classes in Winchester.

Baby Squids went from strength to strength and Laura was getting into her stride and looking forward to Sophie going to school when, in 2016, the unexpected joy of baby Ava arrived! Not to let it halt her in anyway, this mum of three energetic children now oversees 188 classes per week across 19 swimming pools, enjoys running (and the occasional kettlebells class), holidays with her family and maybe more than the odd gin and tonic! She even found time to be a finalist in the 2017 Women’s Venus Awards!

Laura epitomises everything that Baby Squids is about. With a deep understanding that every child, parent and carer is different and needs something unique from our lessons, she has built a swimming class model that gives her teachers the support and freedom they need to create a welcoming, encouraging atmosphere in a safe and nurturing teaching environment.
